APPLETON RUM TOUR: The first stop will be at the Appleton Rum Estate where you will be taken to the bar for orientation and a few cups of the most refreshing rum punch the island has to offer. After a video lesson of how the cane juice is extracted, fermented, aged, blended and bottled. You will go on a guided 45-minute tour of the estate. Jamaica produces some of the most famous rums in the world, so a tour to the famous Appleton Estate should be on your must do list when you visit the island. The estate is 11,000 acres located in the Nassau Valley, in St. Elizabeth on the southern side of Jamaica. On arrival at the Appleton Estate, visitors are given a video briefing about the history of the factory and the process of making rum the old fashion way and the modern.
BLACK RIVER SAFARI TOUR: After 1 hour and 30 minutes you will depart and head off to Riverside Dock where you will have local lunch. After lunch, you will make your way to meet your boat captain and board your pontoon boat which will take you up the Black River for an hour to view the vegetation and see the wildlife (crocodiles, eagles, egrets nesting, giant fern, etc.). The basic tour takes you six miles up the river and return, during which a running commentary is given by your captain/ tour guide on both the ecology and history of the area. Over 100 species of birds have been recorded in the Black River morass and many are seen during your trip. The endangered American Crocodile (c.actus) inhabits the area and sightings are very very frequent.At the end of the tour it will be time to make your way back to the resort.
